Happy Propose Day!!

Ridhi Verma stays at the 5th floor of Novelty Society  and Sakshyam Arora onm the 7th floor.Each day Saksham would rush to lift at 7 am sharp and be there in the lift till she comes to get a glimpse of her. She generally would ignore him and sometimes did give a faint smile. This continued for around a month and each day when she went to catch her bus Saksham would steal a look at her beautiful face. Days passed by and he noticed her with a gang of around 10 girls at the dandiya function, he didn’t dare to go near her. But somewhere she might have noticed he is continously watching her. But he soon vanished as he realized she might have noticed him. No one knew what was in his mind except Ankur. Ankur Trivedi from 8th floor same building. Ankur and Saksham were in same school but now in different colleges. Ankur is an engineering student at IP and Saksham is a B.COM student of DCAC. Both are counted amongst the bright students of the society who often made their parents proud and many women maybe waiting for them to turn to marrigeable age for their daughters,but they were simply not interested. Ridhi is new to the society they came here 2 yrs back and now she is in YMCA engineering college Faridabad. Her bus comes at 7 am and leaves her back at 6:30 pm. This is all they knew about her and had never talked to her. Because Saksham had always fancied her.

Both the boys often go to the terrace for a smoke where the world can not notice their presence and their parents would not know they smoke and talked about various things like college, exams, politics but mostly about girls, sex and yes Ridhi. The hottest chick in the society. By now it was final that she’s Saksham’s girl and Ankur is not going to think about her.Blowing out a fine circle of smoke slowly from his lips Ankur said..”Saale you are going very slow Sakshi,had I been at your place we would have seen movies together by now and she would have kissed me 10 times”, “What do I do man? I do not understand how to begin talking to her. I even went to her house to give courier but her mom didn’t even asked me inside and just said Thankyou beta!”, she could have offered me tea and we would have atleast been introduced once. She is not even a DU student that I can talk about elections or exams. I do not know how to begin and he looked at
Ankur like he has flunked in an exam. After a long pause Ankur said “Ok let me try to befriend her on this studies thing this looks like a good idea, we’ll have to do something to break the ice between you two!”..”Listen! if you steal my love I will throw you from this roof you know that na!”…”Abe saale am only trying to help you, don’t you worry I will vanish from the scene the moment you both click”.

The trick worked soon Ankur had befriended Ridhi who was happy to have a friend from another engineering college to exchange notes with. Few days later she too would sometimes come to the rooftop to meet them,mainly for the notes but then the boys could not smoke that day. For Saksham the uncomfort of not been able to smoke was much less than
the chance to meet Ridhi and they would now sometimes have a small chat. But then what next. The New Year party Saksham made sure he looked his best and as adviced by now his love guru Ankur he just tried to ignore Ridhi as much as he didn’t even check out if she was there at the party and when she stopped by to say hello to Ankur he pretended he too had just met Ankur and said hello and jumped in the conversation. Cleverly Ankur soon disappeared leaving them both together to chat after a few minutes of beating around the bush Saksham said “Did you try the gulab jamuns they are really good, and luckily she hadn’t he took her to the stall and they had gulab jamuns together.” This was the best day of Saksham’s life because he even managed to ask Ridhi out for a pan at Rajinder Nagar which he said was “ultimate!”and she agreed. He thought he’s going too fast but its just a pan not a movie and seems to be working. Ok so now he knew the way to a woman’s heart is also food!! 🙂

Days passed and by Feburary they had been to the pan wala at rajinder place on his bike twice. He even dropped her up to a friend’s place once when she accidently or knowingly told him she is going to next day and Saksham lied hez also going the same way at the same time. Huh! Love wasn’t an easy task was it? His bike’s petrol ran out on the
way back and he dragged it for 2 kms, Ridhi never knew about this part. Ankur the love guru had a brilliant idea and really wanted Saksham to propose Ridhi on 8th of Feb the Proposal Day though Saksham was at first very scared but when Ankur said he can sense Ridhi likes him too he agreed and they planned everything very well and rehersed a
night before.

It was 6:30pm, they knew the time Ridhi comes back from college time for.. Ankur called her to ask for Advance Mathematics book “I forgot my Jaggi Mathur in college yaar, can I please borrow yours for a day I really have to complete an assignment tonight”, she quickly agreed if she hadn’t he had a list of other things he could ask her for :D.”Ok then I’ll see you on terrace at 9pm I’ll go for a walk with Sakshi after dinner”..”Ok” she said…”Wa..what did she say…” Saksham’s eyes were fixed on Ankur’s lips as he said “Yes” she agreed.

This they have been working on since morning and now went again to check, they had bribed the electrician to switch off the society lights for 5 mins at 9:20 pm and he refused at first thinking they are upto planning a murder or something and then they had to tell him that Ankur is going to propose Gauri from tower B 3rd floor..huh! He finally agreed. Ankur being the stud and a good sport took the blame but Saksham got a good yelling after that.They exchanged Electrician’s number so they would give him the missed call when he has to switch the lights off.

They made arrangements at home by telling they are going out for dinner at a friend’s place so the folks at home do not worry about boys’ absence.They prepared the terrace. Meeta aunty didn’t have to come to collect her laundry that day it was dilevered to her home. They bought flowers and candles and arranged things on the terrace.

It was 9 pm Ankur called Ridhi to check and yes she had left her home he said he’ll be there in 15 mins Saksham is struck on the terrace so she should go there and open the door for him. Oh! Ridhi got worried for him and rushed. Ankur kept a watch on the lift’s number display and the moment it indicated the top floor he called up electrician bhaiya who took a few minutes to understand why they want it 20 mins early and that required another 10 lies to him but this was just in time.

Ridhi opened the door at terrace and Saksham was standing in front of her and he said hi, he was breathing heavy. ” Ankur told me you got stu…” she hadn’t completed her words and suddenly there was a power cut. Ridhi noticed candles at the back and moved closer. There were candles all over the floor saying “Be Mine?” his heart was racing so fast that he was scared that she maybe able to listen to his hearbeat. He wanted to hold his heart to his chest but instead he kneeled and said with all his courage “I love you Ridhi”…and the time just stopped. They stood there motionless and frozen. The moon was shining very bright that night and the wind was blowing through her hair but they both stood still and suddenly the power came back. Ridhi didn’t say anything and rushed downstairs directly to her room and locked herself in. She was still shocked. Her mom called to ask what happened and she gathered courage to say..”Nothing am going to sleep..Very Tired” suddenly a tear rolled down her cheek and she realzied that she was just proposed by the guy of her dreams. She rushed towards the phone and called him though couldn’ say a word. He said hez sorry and didn’t want to hurt her. He was scared that she would be crying and suddenly she asked “why did you do this? Do you actually mean it?” ..yes suddenly he had got a lot of courage and he bravely replied “Yes I love you..do you love me too?”…”Yessss…I do!!” and she cried even more and this time a tear drop rolled down his cheek too. He hugged Ankur and cried a bit too.

Its been 5 yrs now they both still stay in Novelty Society but now on the same floor as Mr and Mrs Arora.Ridhi has been a lucky girl to be proposed by the man she secretly liked in such a beautiful way and they have been lucky that their parents understood their love.
